Inflation may not be new, but its impact on retirement planning continues to grow.
As your advisory team at BCA Private Wealth, we’re always looking ahead to ensure your financial plan keeps pace with rising costs. Whether it’s adjusting cash flow strategies, revisiting long-term projections, or accounting for future healthcare needs, we’re here to help you stay ahead of inflation and protect your purchasing power.
Healthcare Costs and Inflation: A Long-Term Concern
One of the most pressing concerns for retirees is the steady rise in healthcare costs. Medicare alone may not cover every expense, and gaps in coverage can leave individuals exposed to unexpected medical bills. Regularly reviewing your Medicare options ensures you’re receiving the right coverage without paying for unnecessary add-ons.
In addition to Medicare, long-term care planning is critical. Whether through insurance products or dedicated savings strategies, preparing for potential future healthcare needs can provide financial protection and greater peace of mind.
Preserving Your Purchasing Power with Inflation Hedges
Inflation gradually reduces the value of your savings, making it essential to include inflation-hedged assets in your retirement portfolio. A Long-Term Diversified Equity Portfolio can be a strong way to grow your money over time and protect your buying power. By including investments that tend to do well when prices rise, you help keep your financial future on track. It’s also important to periodically review your investment allocations. Adjusting your strategy to reflect changes in the economy and your personal goals can help your portfolio continue to meet your needs.
The BCA Private Wealth Approach
We understand that planning for retirement in an inflationary environment brings its own set of concerns. That’s why we take time to evaluate healthcare needs, review long-term care options, and ensure your investments are positioned to support your financial stability, not just today, but years down the road.
Inflation and rising healthcare costs are real challenges, but they don’t have to derail your goals. With a plan that’s built around your life and adjusted over time, you can feel more confident about the future, even in uncertain times.

How to Make the Perfect Martini
June 19 is National Martini Day, and while there are 29 creative ways to enjoy this iconic cocktail (you’ll find them in the article below), we think it’s only right to start with the original. So before diving into espresso, dirty, or fruity twists, here’s how to craft a timeless favorite—the perfect martini.
Instructions
- 2 ounces gin
- 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
- 1/2 ounce sweet vermouth
- Lemon twist, or olives, for garnish
Directions
- In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour in your gin, followed by equal parts dry and sweet vermouth (that’s what makes it a perfect martini).
- Stir (don’t shake) gently for about 30 seconds to blend the ingredients and chill the drink without over-diluting it.
- Pour the chilled martini into a pre-cooled cocktail glass.
- Garnish with a lemon twist or an odd number of olives (traditionally one or three). Odd numbers are said to bring luck—plus, three gives you a bite between sips!
What to Know Before You Sip
- Quality matters. With so few ingredients, this isn’t the place for bottom-shelf anything. Use a premium gin and choose a vermouth with character—brands like Carpano, Noilly Prat, Cinzano, or Vya are all worth exploring.
- Gin styles make a difference. London Dry gin brings bold botanical flavor, especially that classic piney juniper. If that’s not your thing, softer or craft gins offer different profiles—some even floral or citrusy.
- Don’t forget vermouth expires. Once opened, a bottle of vermouth will start to lose its flavor after about three months. Mark the date on the label so you know when to replace it.
Stirred or Shaken?
The classic rule says: stir if it’s all alcohol, shake if it includes mixers. Stirring keeps things smooth and silky, while shaking adds air and slightly more dilution. But in the end, it’s your martini. Try both and go with what you like.
A Word of Caution
Martinis might look elegant, but they’re strong—about 27% alcohol by volume. That’s more than a shot of tequila, so take your time and sip smart.
Looking to Experiment?
There are plenty of fun riffs on the perfect martini. Swap gin for vodka if that’s your go-to. Or play with different base spirits like whiskey, aged rum, or even tequila. Want a Gibson instead? Just change the garnish to a cocktail onion.
You’ll find 29 martini variations in the full article below, but now you’ve got the foundation: a perfect, balanced martini that’s all class. Cheers to National Martini Day 2025!
