Spring Financial Check-In: A Fresh Start for Your Plan

Spring has a way of prompting a reset. We clear out what’s cluttered, reorganize what’s matters, and make space for what’s next. Your financial life deserves that same attention.

As we move further into the year, this is a natural time to pause and ask a simple question: Is my plan still aligned with where I am today?

Markets shift, portfolios drift, and life evolves. A quick review of your investment allocation helps ensure your risk level still fits your goals and time horizon. Even small adjustments through disciplined rebalancing can keep your long-term strategy on track.

This is also a smart time to revisit retirement savings. After tax season, many people have a clearer view of their income and contribution levels. Whether it’s maximizing an IRA, reviewing your 401(k), or taking advantage of catch-up contributions, consistency remains one of the most powerful drivers of long-term results.

Beyond investments, spring is an ideal moment to review the foundational pieces of your plan. Beneficiary designations, estate documents, and insurance coverage are easy to overlook but critically important. As income grows and life circumstances change, your protection and estate strategy should evolve as well.

Finally, take a look at your cash flow. Are you saving at the rate you intended? Has spending gradually increased? Do you have adequate reserves in place? Clarity around these details often creates the greatest sense of confidence.

Financial planning is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing process that adjusts as your life changes. A simple spring check-in can provide reassurance that everything is aligned and working together.

Spring Financial Checklist Recap

  • Review investment allocation
  • Confirm retirement contributions are on track

Golf Tip of the Week

One of the simplest ways to improve consistency is by checking your alignment. Many golfers unknowingly aim their bodies away from the target and then make swing adjustments to compensate, which leads to pulls, slices, and inconsistent contact. Even a technically sound swing can struggle if you’re not set up correctly.

A helpful practice drill is to place a club on the ground at the range pointing directly toward your target. As you address the ball, align your feet, hips, and shoulders parallel to that club, creating a “railroad track” effect. The club on the ground represents the target line, while your body lines run parallel to it. Building this habit into your setup routine promotes straighter shots, more solid contact, and greater confidence over the ball.

Recipe Tip of the Week

Coconut Torte

Ingredients

Cake:

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon coconut extract
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut

Filling:

  • 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (15 oz) can cream of coconut (not coconut milk)

Topping:

  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut (toasted if you want extra flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix cake mix, eggs, sour cream, oil, coconut extract, and shredded coconut until smooth.
  3. Pour into the prepared pan and bake according to box directions (usually 25–30 minutes).
  4. While warm, poke holes all over the cake with the handle of a wooden spoon.
  5. Whisk together sweetened condensed milk and cream of coconut. Slowly pour over the warm cake, allowing it to soak in.
  6. Refrigerate at least 4 hours (overnight is even better).
  7. Spread whipped topping over the cake and sprinkle with coconut before serving.

Pro Tip of the Week

Toast the coconut topping in a dry skillet for 3–5 minutes until lightly golden. It adds texture and a subtle nutty flavor that takes this from “good” to “bring this to every gathering forever.”

Rich, moist, and perfect for spring or summer events!

Travel Tip of the Week

Escape to Scottsdale, Arizona For Sunshine Without The Summer Heat

March is one of the best months to visit Scottsdale. Daytime temperatures are typically in the 70s and low 80s, making it ideal for outdoor activities without extreme heat. The desert is also in bloom, which adds beautiful color to the landscape.

Scottsdale is especially appealing for older travelers because it offers:

  • Resort-style accommodations with on-site dining and spas
  • Easy-access walking paths and scenic desert views
  • World-class golf courses
  • Art galleries, cultural events, and spring training baseball
  • Short driving distances between attractions

It’s a destination that allows you to move at your own pace — relax by the pool one day, explore Old Town the next.

Pro Tip: Visit earlier in the month to avoid peak spring break crowds and secure better hotel rates.
